  • Hello, I've just bought a Roland MT-32 of eBay. Works great on most games. Space quest III won't load though. Shows unable to initialize audio hardware" Could it be because I need a mpu401 intelligent mode capable device? My MT-32 is just hooked up to a Joystick/Midi port. I am considering a Edirol Um One USB MIDI cable for DOSBOX. Just wondering would that do the trick?

  • @bradg1982 I don't think Space Quest 3 requires intelligent mode to play. I seem to recall reading that newer versions of DOSBox remove the need for a true intelligent mode, though I'm unsure if that only applies to using like a USB adapter, or if it applies to all soundcards, as well. You may also want to look into emulating the Roland MT-32 with the ROM files for it. It's actually difficult to distinguish that from a real MT-32. I recommend going to sierrahelp com forums for help.

  • Very interesting device I've never seen it before. I can hear that is does sound better than an ISA 8bit sound card.

  • @narox It's really pretty awesome if you enjoy old computer games. I'm guessing things like this have a more limited appeal than console gaming due to there being so many more people that just never played old PC games, but I'm sure any video game music aficionado understands the value and can appreciate something like this.

  • Great video, very informative. I was interested in the Roland MT-32 but I didn't have any idea of how to use it.

  • I'm probably going to have to pickup one of these. I still have my privateer, Wingcommander games I'd like to play again. I'm not sure how well it works with the old school joysticks though.
