Melanie was diagnosed with Chediak Hegashie Syndrome & HLH approx 6mnths ago.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT.
DUE TO AN OVER WHELMING RESPONSE, GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL ARE ONLY TESTING PEOPLE IN THE FOLKESTONE AREA, AND PEOPLE WHO ARE LOCAL TO GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL ITSSELF, AT THIS PRESENT TIME.
If you are not local but are blood group B+ CMV Negative please still email save.mel@hotmail.co.uk with contact details stating that you are B+ CMV Neg and that you are willing to donate. If the hospital then has to widen the search further afield they will contact you.
She is very poorly and currently in Great Ormond Street Hospital.
She has been very lucky to find a bone marrow donor and her consultants need to do this transplant ASAP. To enable her to have the bone marrow she will need fresh blood infusions 24hrs a day 7 days a week. BLOOD GROUP TYPE B+ CMV NEG... THIS MEANS YOU WILL BE TESTED FOR HAVING FLU VIRUS, EXTREME COLDS AND THE HERPES VIRUS.
You will need to have a blood test to see if you are B+ CMV Neg. If you are suitable you will be given steroids for a few days prior to your donation and will need to travel to London.
Her dad estimates that she will need about 200 donors to find the 4 they need, as only a small percentage will have an exact match.
In the mean time, we are asking that people who want to and can help please please do phone or visit the hospitals. Those who are suitable blood donors please email save.mel@hotmail.co.uk. it make take a little while to get back to you as but please bear with us and we will be in touch over the next few days as we are working as quickly as we can, going through all the emails that have currently been already received.
Previously potential donors were asked to text Melanie's dad Paul, but this is no longer the case, so if you see his mobile number via any of the press/media channels asking for texts, please disregard and only email details to the address above.
Thank you for helping & please pass this on to your friends.
