Thanks for posting this, always wondered about this crash, always just seen short edits before with no details. The second view is good because it shows the initial contact between the two cars. You could say Tony Longhurst was an agressive driver, the same way you could say it rains a lot in Yorkshire.

We had just done a driver change when this happened the noise was unreal.Did 2 years there as a driver best thing I've done with my pants on !!

0:51...The very reason we now have the Hanz device. There was no window, his helmet scraped the top edge of that wall.

this doesn't show the super slo mo we did which showed in graphic detail Tony's head smashing into the concrete. Dick Johnson was first to him. As the TV director I was sure we were going to be dealing with a serious injury. I was gobsmaked when Tony walked away with a few abrasions. No blame was allocated but John Sax should have seen him coming and moved aside.

Yes I remember this, he was leading after the Schz BMW was pitting in and the red BMW was the flaut didnt see the Longhurst lapping him and hit the wall. I at the grandstand that time, it was in 1991 and I never forget this one..I have pic somewhere in my room during his accident. Guess what, a year later the red BMW one hit the Corolla in same spot. He was fined.

I remember this crash vividly, and how one of the drivers ran from the pits and over the pit wall to help Longhurst. He ended up with concussion. I think he was also leading when it happened.
I remember there was a huge debate after, over whose fault the accident was. It seems to me that Longhurst made the mistake, but it did look like he was clear so its a hard one to call.

my workmate was there when it happened, he said it made one hell of a bang!
as I remember, tony longhurst was quite an aggressive driver.
