I only trained with Kru Jasper Tayaba since late August 2011. I can't thank him enough for rekindling my love of Muay Thai. I came to his class with pretty bad forms and prior to that, I was so burned out that I thought I should quit Muay Thai and do yoga instead.

Since I took his class and learning the forms/techniques from him, I improve by so much. My training mate said my kicks are four times harder and all of that because Kru Jasper slowed me down in the beginning so I can focus on my techniques and forms instead of always rushing things and tire myself out. I have long way to go but I know the only way to go from here is up, as long as I train with him consistently.

I feel very blessed and fortunate to have someone like him who has tutored/guided so many world champions and pro fighter to spend time with me. Because of him, I know now that I am very passionate about Muay Thai and if I can keep it up, I would love to be able to fight....I am hoping it's sooner than later :)

  • nice job ! greetings from poland ;]

  • @CuppaWorkout Although it is expensive and you have to work your way up to sparing I really enjoyed Five Points Academy. Unfortunately because of my injury, my right knee is weak so I joined a regular gym to rehab/strengthen it. I'm taking the opportunity to also use the weights and stair master etc. If I feel my knee is strong enough I will join Five Points before I get too busy with school but as you know, one does not want to do Muay Thai unless you can give 100%. (:

  • @gabepizza ok maybe no running then....lose the weight with watching what you eat and perhaps hit elliptical instead. So are you going to do Muay Thai again? Any good academy that you are thinking of in NYC? I can ask Kru Jasper if he knows anyone up there.

  • @CuppaWorkout Running makes me nervous about my knees since I'm heavy and have already had one knee surgery but maybe if I get good sneakers. Thanks for the advice Levi!. I've really been regressing with my fitness,:( I've been real busy with school, got sick and then I pinched a nerve in my back that made my whole right leg numb. I'll be done with finals next week and I'm going to start doing Muay Thai again for a month and get back to a routine. (hopefully if my leg is alright).

  • @gabepizza I think long distance running really melt the fat + some anaerobic/resistance training. How about running? I know it's really cold right now in NYC but if you can clock 2 - 3 miles a day at medium pace, it will help losing weight. I don't plan to lose weight so my running routine is a bit different (hills, sprint). If running is not an option, then jump rope. do it for 12 mins with 30 sec interval :)

  • @CuppaWorkout The only other thing is exercise. I have one more high stress week and then I'm in the clear for a while. (: I really need to so some aerobic exercise.

  • @gabepizza ahh...I hear you. Try to find something to replace the food in handling your stress. I've been eating bad lately too and I gain a few lbs last week (I think bloating from alcohol and very high carb diets). However, I have noticed I got stronger too so maybe gaining a bit not such a bad thing. I have heard once I intensify the conditioning, it will be hard not to lose weight. As for you, is there a way to find other things to alleviate stress other than eating?

  • @CuppaWorkout No, I've never really tracked my diet. It is not high sodium because one reason I have got into fitness is I was diagnoses with high blood pressure to I am consciously trying to reduce my sodium intake. Yeah 15lb in a month is a lot and I think it is eating from stress. I really want to go back to Muay Thai but in the mean time I want to stay conditioned and not gain anymore weight!

  • @gabepizza oh you know, losing weight to me is like 50% diet, 50% workout. Workout alone will not be enough unless you work out hardcore like training to be a muay thai fighter :D. Since you only have one hour a day, then you need to watch out your diet. Have you tried to calculate your Resting Metabolic Rate and track your food accordingly? Do it for like 2 weeks, then you know how much you should eat to lose that weight. 15 lbs a month seems a lot, perhaps bloating from high sodium diet?

  • @CuppaWorkout hmmm...Mainly my core and to lose weight. This summer when I was taking Muay Thai classes I was able to lose 15lbs. Weighing myself today I already gained that 15lbs back in just one month and I'm still doing exercise at home, like burpees and the Rutten cd! It's not only the lack of exercise but I'm also eating more because of stress and as procrastination. It's real disheartening.): I really only have at most 1 hour a day at home for exercise now.
