The New York Times reports al-Qaida is seizing on the turmoil in Pakistan to strengthen its presence there and bolster other Islamist militant groups. The newspaper quotes US and Pakistani officials as saying the group's recruiting campaign now is aimed at young fighters to enlist them for attacks on local targets in Pakistan, instead of far reaching global targets.
The news report comes as counterterrorism experts in Washington discuss ways to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al-Qaida.
