  • Thank you for posting this. It was my first concert in the Chorus so it's great to see it online, even if the Tenor soloist (who always reminded me of Dale Winton!) did tend to shriek a little on the sharp side. It was however a great performance and a great overall concert to be at.

  • Wow, congratulations for being involved in such a great performance. I was there in the audience (at the tender age of 16) and this night changed my life.

  • he even don't sing right the melody...???

  • Once again, I have to ask you to elaborate here and give more detail as to why it's bad, and what qualifies you to say so; otherwise I (and other readers) will only assume that this (and the other gentleman's comment) is a transparent attempt at trolling.

Believe me, I'm curious to know why you hate this performance that I love so much - as music lovers, can we not strike up a dialogue that goes beyond "what a bad performance" and "he doesn't sing the right melody"? Why? How?

  • what a bad performance! Esp. the Tenor - what the hell is he doing!?!? He definitly does not sing Janaceks original lyrics... It´s a shame....

  • I went to quite a considerable amount of trouble with this concert - transferring the VHS tape, restoring the audio, etc; if you didn't like it, fair enough - but please, express it with a little sensitivity and gratitude. I didn't just pull this out of my backside. This concert changed my life (I was there - it was awe-inspiring) and I'd quite like to hear why you find it so underwhelming. Care to elaborate?

  • @glagolitic

Thank you for your efforts. Wonderful. Some do not realize this is the glagolitic liturgy.

  • @orgelitis As a Czech citizen I'd like for you to tell me what the original lyrics are supposed to be since you're the only one on planet Earth who seems to think they're wrong.

  • @MINGESELLE299 I agree! The ending of the "Veruju", to me, depicts the doors of heaven bursting open with joy. I have an extra score if you'd like it.

  • "Veruju" is definitely the best part of the Glagolitic Mass. It's such powerful music...after listening to the Glagolitic Mass, the part that I always have on my mind is the Veruju.

  • The last minute of this movement sounds as if the doors of heaven are bursting open with joy! Completely overwhelming - I'm not even religious!

  • This is absolutely fantastic! One of the greatest works and a stellar performance. Thank you for posting

  • This is quite wonderful. I was at the Royal Festival Hall in 1970 when Andrew Davis first conducted the Glagolitic Mass. I was 14 and have never forgotten the stunning impact of that evening. I've subsequently heard it dozens of times and performed it. Among the great live performances I've heard, those by Mackerras stand out as very special - as did (to a slightly lesser extent) Kempe and Downes. This Davis is one of the best - he really understands it. Thank you so much for this!

  • @glagolitic I think it's great and would actually love to have a copy of it!

  • This movement out of all of them is my favorite, though the entire mass is breath taking! This movements coda makes me want to cry because it's so beautiful.

  • thank you for posting, it is one of my favourite works!
