I heard her read this poem shortly before she died. She sounded real---in pain, perhaps. I will never forget the attention of her "minders" there. She was valued and loved, by those around her and by readers like me. I miss her. The world is poorer without her.

What a narcissistic exhibitionist. Read "Searching For Mercy Street - My Journey Back to My Mother, Anne Sexton" by her daughter Linda Gray Sexton. It is particularly repulsive to read about Anne stimulating her daughter Linda's privates, openly masturbating in front of her or grinding her naked genitals up againts Linda's pre-teen backside while "spooning" in bed with her. How lovely. Yes, she was bi-polar and an alcoholic but she was also extrodinarliy manipulative and a child molester.

You can hear the toll of booze and emotional wear and tear in her voice. Listen to earlier recordings and you'll notice the stark difference in clarity. Not that it takes away from the power of her words in any way. Love the Bukowski with a girly twist comment =)

@moegudis yes. I really don't think you could have said it better in such few amount of words. Yeah that's exactly what it's like, that's what I feel every time but I just couldn't put it to words I just knew her voice had a edgy kind of sound to it, like a voice that lived long enough to see a lot of shit, a very wise but tired voice.

she reminds me of the mother of my best friend as a child,who had a smokers voice, and an eerie way of looking through you and at the same time comforting you with that so human voice, weary of itself.
