A wonderful song by the splendid Richard Stilgoe & Peter Skellern. If anyone claiming copyright ownership has objections to their material being used in this tribute, please message me and I'll remove it. Otherwise, enjoy this short video collage.

UPDATE OCT 2011:
I'm told that when someone who appreciated this video asked Richard Stilgoe for his permission to play the song, he gladly granted it, but suggested a donation to his foundation, The Orpheus Trust: http://www.orpheus.org.uk/
You might want to do the same - I know I will!
(Thanks to Alison B for passing that on.)

She has a point though. Modern-style churches can be over-intrusive.

It is interesting that some reckon this song is in favour of modern worship and practices, and others reckon it is in favour of tradition. Surely there should be room both for the Mrs. Beamishes and also those who cannot agree with them. Within the church all should be able to accept each others point of view and preferences and act towards each other with patience and understanding - otherwise why go? .

I know you posted this a long time ago, but we've been looking for sheet music in vain. Are you able to tell me where to get hold of a copy? Willing to pay for purchase of music and copyright etc! kate@fruitpigeon.plus.com. Many thanks!

Being a bass player in a C of E church band I doubt Mrs Beamish would be my best friend.

Mrs Beamish (and thereby Richard Stilgoe) is my hero. Speaking as a 20-year-old who cannot stand happy-clappy muzak, and whose preferred environment is Tridentine-rite Roman Catholicism, with Gregorian chant, robed choirs, organs, bells and incense, I can but share Stilgoe's anti-evangelical sentiments. These hand-wringers are not only not satisfied to allow real music to dominate, but will stop at nothing to destroy our traditions altogether.

My church is doing an arrangment with the tune of this song, but diffrent words. It is to commemorate the 10th annaversairy of our modern building
