NASA weather balloon seen over Phoenix one morning in 2004. Withe the correct exposure on the camera quite a bit of detail can be seen. This was taken about 7am, the wind was calm.

  • Those are the lines used to fill the envelope with gas. Weather balloons are sometimes a little odd in how they get filled, the old 'fill from the bottom' method won't work in some cases. I've even seen balloons that are filled from the top!

  • was that on the same day in 2004 you caught an "ufo" on tape?

  • Ah, you know your the first one to notice. Congratulations! I was wonder if any one would take the time to see both clips. It took a while but it's nice to see that people would do that. And to answer your question, yes. Same day. The other clip is a lower quality image that was compressed a long time ago.

  • Thanks. I hope this helps people out when they look to the sky and wonder what the heck that thing is up there. I'm going to add more information to the clip, like time and enviromental conditions.

  • so its a weather balloon... whats the point of this video?

  • The point is that the video shows a weather balloon. It's not something you see every day, now is it?

  • Thank you for posting. I saw one tonight at sunset over Belen, New Mexico. Wondered what it was. Thanks a bunch!

  • I've seen weather balloons, but none which look like that. What are all the "tentacles" hanging from beneath it? All weather balloons I've seen are just round balloons with a long tether on the bottom. The bottom of the tether is the radiosonde instrument, and th top of the tether is a red parachute which is carried already open, and which opens after the balloon bursts at high altitude.

  • Wow! I finally found out what that was! At least I'm guessing this must have been the same one I saw over Ahwatukee. Had the binoculars out and had a great view of that. Those tubes coming down really had me wondering though. Thanks for posting this!

  • fake! das ist ein ufo!

  • thanks for posting, I always wondered what a weather balloon looked like!

  • @johnkit I see weather balloons everyday. Then again, I believe in Leprechauns too. A bowl of Lucky Charms cereal anyone ?

  • @Drewster327 A UFO is by definition supposed to mean "unidentified" not "extraterrestrial." So if they saw a weather balloon but could not identify it as such, it's a UFO. Yes?

  • a wild drifloon appeared
