זה היה המרד הראשון של היהודים, שפתח תקופת מאבק דמים של היהדות אל מול שליטתה בארץ של רומא האלילית, ואחריו המזרח התיכון עוד הזדעזע עמוקות ממלחמת קיטוס ומרד בר-כוכבא שהביא את המאבק לשיא. התוצאה הסופית של תקופה זו הייתה חורבן וגירוש, וחכמים נוטים להטיל את האשמה בכשלון המאבק במלחמת אחים במהלך המרד הגדול ובחטא היוהרה של בר-כוכבא.

The 'Sicarii' were the equivalent of special forces - not fundamentalist assassins. And even if they were, assassination is a valid warfare tactic, one that every nation on Earth, throughout history has used. They're being routed as fundamentalist assassins because they happened to be torah- and God-fearing Jews.

The definition of terrorist is that they primarily act "soft" ie non-military targets to spread terror, for political ends. Irregular forces who attach military targets are properly termed guerrillas. There can be an often is some over lap, so organizations are generally classified as to which activity they primarily engage in. Suicide bombs in markets or shelling villages = terrorist. Bombing military convoys or bases = guerrillas.

Josephus account of the siege is this. Over several months Silva constructed a siege wall, with towers and eight camps, right round the plateau, and then an assault ramp up which he rolled a massive siege tower equipped with a battering ram and artillery. The final assault, on the day after the defences had been breached and fired, revealed that the 960 defenders had taken their own lives.
