Dear Mr rjthesmoker,
In response to your e-mail.
As you are aware of the introduction of a new EU standard which requires all cigarette manufacturers to produce cigarettes that will self-extinguish if not actively drawn on, in order to minimise the risk associated with fires.
All cigarette brands sold in the UK are now required to comply with this new standard and all will Self-Extinguish. Compliance is generally ensured by manufacturers applying bands or "speed bumps" across the cigarette paper during manufacture to decrease the burning speed when the smouldering tobacco reaches the band. However, please be aware that there is no such thing as a "fire-safe" cigarette. Cigarettes are designed to be burned, and any burning item is a potential fire hazard.
We would like to assure you that we have made no changes to the tobacco or our process other than the introduction of the "speed bumps" so you can be sure that all our cigarettes will remain the same great quality and taste you have come to expect. We have been producing these for the last couple of months.
We are pleased that you smoke our brand and hope that our comments have proved helpful.
Yours sincerely
Miss M O'Rourke
