Under the Taliban, Kabul's football stadium was a place of fear and execution. Football was discouraged and spectators banned from cheering. But through all the years of oppression, love of the beautiful game remained. Now, in a symbol of the country's rebirth, Afghanistan is rebuilding its national team. We follow football legend Ali Askar Lali as he returns from exile in Germany to select and train the new players. Working in farcical conditions, he tries to prepare the men for their first symbolic international match. Will the team be ready? And do they stand any chance of success?

  • Mustafa Amini half Afghan has signed for Borussia Dortmund !

  • afghan football association is pretty biased too, instead of choosing real afghan talent from own country and in foreign countries they chose the ones that are sponsored by their wealthy and powerful family members or buddies. There are much better soccer afghan soccer players out there.

  • To learn more about the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, read Afghan Hearts & Minds by Shafie Ayar.

  • love this documentry

  • @omidaeus Ok brother i take my comment back, as i misunderstood you...

  • @Alakuzy I never said Europe was high altitude. I said Europe is lower altitude where there is more oxygen in the air. Secondly, Afghanistan's high altitude means less oxygen in the air. This means that Afghan athlete's bodies are adapted to have more blood and bigger lungs to try and get more oxygen from the air. But when Afghans atheletes go play in other countries like in Europe, then its possible the Afghans will have advantage since their bodies are able to breath in more oxygen.

  • @omidaeus Brother thanks for you comment, but Afghan athletes have disadvantage living in high altitude. Who told you Europe is located in high altitude like Afghanistan? Europe is very close to sea level, country like holland is under the sea level which is in europe.

  • @omidaeus 100% agree with you. thank you..i just love your comment.

  • First, this whole Pakistan vs Afghanistan hating needs to stop. We are all human and Allah made all of us equal. Every culture and people have their own set of good and bad.

Secondly, Afghan athletes have a nice advantage of living in high elevations, which means their bodies are better capable of carrying more oxygen in lower altitude places like Europe etc. Hopefully, Afghanistan can one day be as great as it was before the Russians invaded. The video images from the 1970s was impres

  • Surely, we can take some of the billions being generated by FIFA leagues in Europe and send some of the money to develop Afghani and other developing nations' national teams, leagues, and players.
