The video shows movement up to the overtaking position to coincide with the overtaking opportunity developing or potentially developing. This requires anticipation, good observation and in some cases local knowledge. The overtakes would have been unsafe if the rider had remained in a following position until the opportunity presented itself as too much distance would need to be covered before reaching the vehicle to be overtaken.
