The 1st train is a tribute to my younger days when I thought paying $80 - $90 for an engine was just plain stupid! Not to mention my Dad would have smacked me if I'd asked such a stupid question.

The power for this 1st train, I know its not period correct with the rest of the video, is "Bachmann" Norfolk Southern GP 50 High Hood #6551 and its short train of the more affordable Bachmann and Lifelike rolling stock.

2nd, a pair of long hood forward running C&O SD 35's, #'s 7431 & 7420 power a short train of empty hoppers to New River Minings tipple. 3rd, power heavy freight lead by Chessie/B&O GP 40-2 #4108 and followed by Western Maryland GP 35 #3579, B&O SD 35 #7405, Chessie/C&O B30-7 #8245, Chessie/C&O B30-7 #8250 and Family Lines System/L&N GP 38-2 #6043, follow up to the empty hoppers.

  • I have that same chessie boxcar bachmann, also i usually buy athearn, but here lately I recently bought a few of the newer bachmann engines they are night and day from the old ones.anyway nice layout u have there, looks like u got a lot of work in it

  • In many cases however, the quality has improved. Detailing is at a much higher level , approaching that of many high quality european manufacturers, and in some cases exceeding that.

Also on the mechanical side, things have improved. I still think that paying between 100 and 200 for a quality engine is pretty reasonable. I used to pay more than that for a Roco locomotive in the early 90's. In any case, enjoy the hobby, no matter what budget. It's fun and relaxing at the same time.

  • It's ridiculous how much model railroad items have gone up. Especially since it's a shrinking hobby and production has moved to cheaper China.

Bachman especially, their models are basically the same as 15 years ago but are twice as much now in retail value.

  • Thank You!
