This part with Gene is what I like about Outlaw Star. IMO, it makes the characters more real.

Yes, Gene is drunk, but more than that he is facing the reality that he may die the next day. Especially with the allure of Melfina and being a guy who "quite enjoys" the touch of a woman...it makes the whole situation especially tense. He completely misread Melfina's innocent intentions.

Where she was trying to console him, he took it as a sexual advance.

Makes for a 100% more real character to me

@Chula69x Mostly because he was drunk (from drinking with Leilong), and probably pretty agitated too, knowing he might die the following day and all. :P

I think that Gene Starwind is easily one of the best written main characters for an anime series ever except for Yusuke Urameshi.
