Food Who Pays the Price? raises important questions about who produces the food we eat and how. Urbanization, climate change, changing diets in emerging economies and the impact of supermarkets are putting new pressures on the land and changing the face of farming. Meanwhile small farmers around the world are leaving the land in increasing numbers.

Staged in Rome to mark IFADs 30th Anniversary.
Produced by TVE for BBC World in cooperation with IFAD.

  • I hate the guy @ 05:17

  • Unilever, a massive corporation that has by its own actions been responsible for the destruction of vast tracts of land. He speaks of suply chains and comodities, not of the importance of the relationship between the people that eat the food and the farms that grow it.

Some one should be asking this servant of the corporate world, about the destruction of virgin forest for the production of palm oil in Indonesia. The rhetoric may sound benign, but the actions are utterly evil.

  • Farmers, even here in the UK do not produce food any more, merely comodities for markets. The supermarkets rip them off, waste thier produce and drive the environmental impact up. It is within the environment that the true cost of industrial farming and these false ideologies of economic growth. They favour industrial farming purely becasue it enables the destruction of the diverse and gentler techniques of the more traditional & people orientated food systems.
