Why don't you go to Russia, or Sweden, or Japan, or Latin America, or Spain, or the former Yugoslavia and tell me how nobody cares about basketball, baseball, or hockey. Oh and while our team doesn't have a hard qualification road, we definitely could have beaten Macedonia and Norway and won the second round to reach the World Cup.

Heard of China? Basketball is tremendously popular there. South America? Brazil is a basketball rabid country.

Please. Countries care about basketball or they would not pump their teams into the FIBA Championships or the Olympics. The US put their B team out there for FIBA and still won.
