This video was taken at the 2005 Tallship festival in Port Alberni. The plane is one of two of our locally based water bombers. They are based at Sproat Lake and are the largest water bombers in the world. They are over 60 years old and saw original service in the US navy.

  • That was a fun festival. Is Port Alberni going to host in 2008?

  • @jaredwfs23 What are you talking about? The bombers are asskickers! That's a lot of water to land on an asshat.

  • my uncle was the top flier in 2004

  • i live on port alberni and ive gone inside of that (not in air)

  • have you seen the DC10 fire bomber that California has to fight fires. Im thinking that's the biggest plane for wild fires.

  • I was on cowichan lake one of those things came down and picked up water really close to me, it was pretty cool to watch that close up.

  • it looks kinda confusing, but really it is hundreds of gallons of water being released as quickly as possible, so as it falls it separates and looks puffy. I would really not like to stand under it, it's a bit more than a shower.

  • Before you write garbage, investigate your subject. These planes are invaluable in fighting fires.

  • If they did not work, do you think they would risk lives sending the bombers in harms way?
