@Watcher3223 Similar thing happened with the Tiger Game com, lots of ideas unusual for a handheld that are now becoming commonplace, but at the time none of them were practical or ready for use in a gaming handheld, and as a result it did none of those new ideas well at all.
"People forget this wasn't originally meant to be a video game console."
And that was CD-i's downfall along with the fact that it tried to do it all with technology that wasn't as refined as needed in some respects (1x speed CD drives) while being obsolete in others (16-bit processor technology).
CD-i was formally standardized in 1986 but marketed in 1991.
It took five years to get CD-i to retail and it was still too ambitious overall to be viable.
Philips CD-i digital video wasn't really much better than VHS and, for the high price of equipment and small selection of titles, LaserDisc was a MUCH better deal if you wanted movies with high A/V quality from disc.
Then, when DVD-Video came out, there just wasn't much point in continuing the already abysmal support of CD-i Video/Video CD in North America and Europe.
In Asia, VCD was very popular, but DVD would replace it in relatively short time.
when i buy a Sega Saturn i having the same kind of Video MPEG 1 card it was expensive, but the quality was not so bad for a prequel of DVD it's realy in between laserdisc for digital sound and dvd without scanline and 480 i resolution.
i live in the uk and a couple of years ago i bought a cdi from gamestation with a ton of games, years later i still collect titles for the machines, and luckily it contained
i used have cdi. sucks i had to buy the dumb video card. i pay a good penny for that. it was pretty stupited you had to buy the stupited video player to. why could not just play them on the cdi player. this was around when laser disk were around. plus the disk did get smaller probley got the idea from phillips. the game were cool though.

People forget this wasn't originally meant to be a video game console. Despite its many flaws, I like the CDi.
