No I am a dental hygienist and I dont even numb for root scaling and planing with scalers, this does not hurt at all if done correctly it only bleeds as result of diseased gum tissue.

@jehy5 it's actually not a drill, it's an electronic scaler called a cavitron. drills sound much worse (at least to those that are afraid of dentists).
