Seaplane flying is an exciting way to rediscover the fun and freedom of flying, or add that rating pilots covet. Now, the latest DVD in Sportys "What You Should Know" series can help you get your feet wet.

In So You Want to Fly Seaplanes, youll travel to the famous Jack Browns Seaplane Base in Florida for a complete look at what flying seaplanes is all about. Climb into the back seat of a Piper J-3 Cub on floats for a pilots eye view of all the maneuvers required for the FAA checkride. Learn the different taxi techniques youll use, how to read the wind and the water, and how to master water takeoffs and landings.

Along the way, youll get real world tips to help advance your skills from noted seaplane instructors Jon Brown and John Rennie. Also includes interactive extras for more detailed information about key topics.

Packed with over an hour of in-flight footage and full motion graphics, So You Want to Fly Seaplanes is perfect for anyone interested in the world of water flying.

  • @TheArcticChiller Haha, technically that may be right. However, most "sea" planes cannot tolerate much waves. I've flown mostly Cubs and Cessna sea planes and I wouldn't want to put any of them down in the open sea.

  • @RobertGary1 A floatplane doesn't care if it's a lake or sea. It cares about if it's water or pavement. :)

  • Very cool!

  • @sktfucker212 my float plane instructor told me a story of a fellow who was forced to land because of a thunderstorm. It was so gusty he couldn't dock or beach safely so he taxiid around. Unfortunatly the wind capsized him but he and the plane survived and are doing just fine. Actually, his plane is doing more than just fine, its a f*ing beautiful yellow super cub on straight floats

  • Yay for the J3 Cub

  • There are very few "sea planes" that can actually land in the sea. Most land on small lakes.

  • They are. I only have a hundred hours in sea planes but I have my CFI.

  • Divert- Plan an alternative and call in a hotel.
