Inspired by Austin Gutwein at the Anaheim Revolve Tour, 14-yr-old Katie Rouse decided to host her own Revolve Hoops of Hope. She held it at her home church, West Valley Christian Church, in West Hills, CA on December 6, 2008. 27 people participated throwing a total of 4,093 free throws in two hours! They have raised over $1000. Hoops of Hope is a fun way to raise funds for orphans in Africa devastated by the HIV/AIDS virus. Its like a walk-a-thon but more fun because you are shooting free throws. Each free throw represents giving hope to another orphan. If you love basketball, you'll love having a Hoops of Hope event! Hoops of Hope raises funds for World Vision and 100% of the money is used for special projects in Africa. They are currently raising funds for a Testing Lab and Medical Clinic in Zambia then they plan to raise funds for six Hope Care Centers to help care for the needs of these African orphans. Please consider hosting your own Hoops of Hope event. May 2, 2009 is World AIDS Orphan Day and is a perfect day to have an event. If that doesn't work, any day will do as well. You can get started at http://www.firstgiving.com/revolvehoopsofhope. As Natalie Grant's song goes, What Are You Waiting For?
