An alternative opening sequence for the 2004 BBC adaptation of "The Murder Room" done in the style of the old ITV adaptations with Richard Harvey's music. Much better than the bland BBC opening sequence (although the programme itself was excellent)

Just to confuse the matter further, to deepen the mystery, I believe the actual title of the piece is simply Elegy. Ive been trying to find a source for the complete composition, to no avail.

Yes that's right it is called Elegy, I'd forgotten that. My brother bought the 7" single at the time.

I have it as part of a compilation CD called "Impressions" that was released in the late 1980s or possibly the very early 90s, on which the track was, I believe, entitled "The Black Tower". Or maybe it was "The Black Tower" on the 7" single and Elegy on the CD, I forget :)

FYI the music is by Richard Harvey and not Richard Hartley as listed.

The tune is actually called "Shroud For a Nightingale", which was also the title of another PDJames - Dalgliesh series.

Quite right I've changed the spiel. On the "Impressions" album I took it from, the track is called "The Black Tower". I think they changed the title of the track depending on which series they were showing at the time. Shroud for a Nightingale was the second to use this theme - Death of an Expert Witness was the first.

Fair comment. I only had clips from the actual episodes to work with. If if had bene done properly, they would have shot a lot of the material specially.

I've got that album called 'Impressions'. The album actually came out in 1986. On the Impressions album the track is called The Black Tower.
