Hi Nicole. Your friend has a bent wrist because he pinches the string down with his fingers against his thumb. Pulling the string down with the arm, not the thumb results in a straight-ish wrist because the arm functions then as a large unit. The bent wrist, then, is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is pinching with the thumb. Try it! You'll see that pinching excessively will let you feel like it doesn't matter what the wrist is doing since the force is all in the hand

The old way to stop the habbit of this rist is ro put rose thorns on the cello's neck/where your rist lies.

My name is Nicole and I also play the cello in my school band. However, one other cello player in my cello section has a problem with keeping his wrist strait. He tends to collapse it while playing, and I wanted to know what would be the best way to break this habit of his.
