Video Bill Gates- when promoting Apple, writing software for APPLE COMPUTER about 1984.
Bill Gates Quote: "To create a new standard, it takes something that's not just a little bit different, it takes something that's really new and really captures people's imagination and the Macintosh, of all the machines I've ever seen, is the only one that meets that standard." — Bill Gates

@ribaldi You're slightly mistaken. QDOS was purchased from SCP, (Quick and Dirty Operating System) which was designed by Tim Paterson who hated CP/M and believed he could make a better OS. He sold it for $50K without knowing that Microsoft had a deal to license it to IBM.
What you've said is true. CP/M was purchased from SCP in 1980 for $50K and was resold to IBM as its first PC OS - renamed DOS. Hence 1981 saw the intro of IBM PC. But DOS was a CLI much like most computers at the time including the 4 year old Apple II.
Lisa was the 1st GUI PC followed by Mac. Xerox produced the 1st concept of GUI but it was for workstations & never meant for consumers. Gates was invited to develop SW for Lisa & Mac in 1982-3. This influence him to work on Windows 1.0 later.
"someone shut this guy up we have alot of money invested in this!"- comedian bill hicks , do you think they care? in peoples eyes, they wont let the truth get in the way of a good story, but yes this is true
