Yeah, mostly uploading this as a response to Kocsis' recording. Showing you don't have to sacrifice power and emotion for speed.

Anyway, going to be taking another break from uploading for about... two months? Might be some sporadic uploads, but generally going back to being dormant for a bit. Sorry I can't complete the Lazar Berman thing I wanted to do; I'll pick up on that where I left off (because, after all, I like to pander to that other 1% of my subscribers).

Live from the 2006 Piano-e-Competition, performed by Mikhail Mordvinov.

  • God, that semi-moto perpetuo thing going on in the left is so wonderfully mechanical. Bartok saw cyborgs coming.

  • classical music should be the most popular form of music but it's poorly marketed and no one really knows about it..if we could have someone play gaspard de la nuit in malls, or a cute girl or handsome guy playing the paganini's solo works, or a sexy ballet dancer showing off her curves, classical music would instantly destroy all musical competition because this beauty and appeal to passion is undeniably easy to internalize, but why aren't we doing it? why r we letting lady gaga win publicity?

  • A million kudos to Mikhail Mordvinov!!!! I love this guy's style!!

  • I can't help but think this is Bartok's response to impressionism. These etudes are like the demonic version of Ravels Ondine. The moto perpetuo here is less liquid and more crazy, with virtually steamrolled dynamics and tempo. There is a cheeky indifference to his own music's nuances. Mordvinov's recording is better than Kocsis' because it is more sensitive to its impressionistic roots, but without forgetting this IS a Bartok piece. Kocsis' interpretation is just a bit... flat comparatively.

  • Прекрасно! Я давно так ничем не восхищался! Спасибо!

  • hey this is from the Minnesota Piano-E competition right? I watched them all, superb standard! I wish my hands were as big as this guy's!!

  • Bravo!

  • I agree with you, you shouldn't sacrifice power for speed, especially in this music. But I sincerely don't think Kocsis's recording lacks of emotion or power...
