I'm sure the police was just trying to protect everyone..... I wouldn't have been that brave to be there during that time... I was watching it at home on the tv.....

irish89055 , you seem determined to take an antagonistic position on this subject, so let me be clear about something: As I previously stated, I DO NOT work for The Chapel Hill Fire Department, and I am not at liberty to say what they should or should not have done in this situation. I never said the lady filming was not close to the fire. I said she probably wasn't as close as she thought, meaning inside the safety barrier. As you said, you are not a firefighter.

@RebelChile8769 First, the lady filming was very close to the fire and Rebel, I'm not a firefighter, but in VA I can assure you a Dept as close as Chapel Hill FD was, with their equipment would have been on scene considering mutual aid agreements and just being neighbors, ect. They may have been there but I've not seen any powder blue units in clips on here...

@katezona Thank you for your kind comments. It is nice to be appreciated.....lol! :)

@irish89055 since I don't work for Chapel Hill fire department, I can't comment on what they could have done.

does anyone know if there is a video of the clock tower falling in??

a sad day for pittsboro

@RebelChile8769 couldn't Chapel Hill FD have been a big help? I guess if the water pressure was low maybe their or your units wouldn't have....
as a firefighter in Hillsborough, I have to say that you are not as close as it seems to you. As a rule of thumb, a perimeter is set up 1 and a half times the height of the building that is on fire, to protect emergency workers and civilians from the risk of building collapse. From watching the video you shot, you appear to be well within the safety line. That being said, I would like to thank you for sharing your video with us. Have a good evening.

Hi, and thanks! I was directly across the street. It was pretty intense. We could really feel the heat, and we could feel the spray of the water, too ...and shortly after I shot the first couple of videos, they told us we were too close, and moved us a block away. It's so so sad. I really commend you firefighters and what you do! Thanks!
