First official video I've made of my beautiful Marantz Model 9 amplifiers. The video is meant to showcase the amps, not their audio prowess. Youtube cannot do these amps justice!

The amps are running Svetlana Winged C EL34s. I just replaced the driver tubes in the amp to the right with Brimar ECC88s and left the other amp with the "stock" National 6DJ8s for a comparison. The song being played is Chris Thile's "The Eleventh Reel" off his 2006 album "How To Grow a Woman From The Ground"

I've got my iPod plugged directly into the amps via a Monoprice RCA-to-1/8" stereo cable. The Marantz 7T shown near the end of the clip is not connected due to some recent technical difficulties I've experiencing with it. I'll be putting up another clip soon once the 7T has a clean bill of health.

  • Beautiful set of mono blocks.

Be sure to rip all your CDs with Apple Lossless.

The iPod can bypass your preamp for better results.

Wadia makes a great iPod dock to feed the DAC.

The vintage smaller advents are the bottleneck in revealing the potential here.

    Maybe try Planar type speakers.

Top recommendation, Newform R30 hybrid Ribbon/cone speaker.

Martin Logan would be a step up too.

You are off to a great adventure with this set up.

    Have fun and enjoy!

I looked into the Wadia. Currently the only transport out there for ipods right now that will bypass the DAC in the ipod. Wish it wasn't so expensive! I import most of my music at 320kbps AAC. Lossless is saved for those really well produced or well mixed albums that I know I'll appreciate more in that format.

Speakers need to stay small for the place I'm living in. If you have recommendations for small bookshelf speakers, I'm all ears!

Just got myself a pair of Focal Chorus 806Vs for my smaller apartment setup and they're sounding great. Unloaded the Advents rather quickly on CL. I'll step up to a larger pair of speakers when I move into a bigger place that can accommodate them.

  • An iPod as source!??

  • @deucejam

oh, the irony! yes, an ipod.

I don't have much of a system besides these amps and the preamp. working on getting either a Rega P1 or a vintage Marantz 6300 so I can start playing vinyl. I also bought a Maverick D1 DAC for all my digital stuff so things are starting to sound better. Although you'd be surprised how good even an ipod sounds through these amps.

  • drooools...... :)

  • beautiful blocks!

  • @teleking36 If you could fit a small pair of Magnapan you'd be well on your way to a highly detailed, subtle, incredibly fun to listen to system.

    New stuff might include:

Usher, Quad, DeVore Fidelity, B&W, Chapman, PSB, Newform Line Source, Audioengine.

Gallo makes a great super small satellite system.

The challenge is to find $20,000 sound for less than $1,000!

Have fun, It's a life long pursuit.
