Sophie Tucker (aka Sophie Kalish) - born in Russia 1884 -- died in New York City in 1966, was one of the best known singers, comedians and entertainers for two generations in America and in Europe during the first half of the 20th century. Her low deep voice and her upbeat jazzy style made her -- as she humorously called herself -- the „last of the Red Hot Mamas" in the USA. Some of her interpretations, especially those recorded in the turn of the 1920/30s have became the classics of the singing art: „Some Of These Days", „My Yddishe Mame", „The Man I Love", „Moaning Low". She performed and recorded most willingly with Ted Shapiro by the piano -- or accompanying her with his orchestra; some of her exquisite recordings were also made with Miff Mole.

  • great singer sophie tucker

  • "I know he doesn't know i know he's having his fling, but i've cheated cheaters 15 years, he can't show me a thing" (!) :-)

  • You know, when I found out my ex was cheating on me, but he was still trying to deny it.. I would always make sure this song made it onto every playlist I played on the computer while he was in ear shot! And I would sing along... Now wouldn't that be a way to drive him crazy in a shot period of time? He couldn't as if I was actually trying to tell him something, without giving himself up first.

    God Bless you, Sophie

  • THANK YOU !!

  • They should make a biopic of her. Who would play Sophie?

  • 80 years old and still risque enough to hold its own today...a class act.
