Wow, that's a tough one. We would have to start over, which is exactly what our constitution was set up for. No paper money, no federal reserve, no IRS, no military-industrial complex, no sacrificing liberties for security, no alliances with other countries, just commerce. Purge the government of the corrupt by going back to a republic. That's just the beginning. Did you know you can can(or "jar") butter? The correct process will allow you to preserve butter without refrigeration for months. Canned butter is a really good addition to your camping larder.

IF you buy a home canner or pressure cooker, it will likely come with a cookbook on canning. There are plenty of other books on the market and internet articles to help you along.

Did you know that George Washington didn't think that USA would last 100 years? So, from the first President there has been a prediction of doom. Sorry, but nothing new there.

We are on the verge of a new era. What happens next is up to all of us. We all have to accept the fact that oil is obsolete. Not just USA but the whole planet. We are aready feeling the affects and it is going to get worse until people start commiting to alternate fuel sorces, etc.

I would love to think that the people here in America would recognize this threat before it gets out of hand, but I would expect the current trend towards fascism (with the endorsement of most of the country) to continue. I expect a theocratic-fascist government to take hold when people finally get hopeless, given the current exponential trend of the people. However, the only hope is in the younger generation.

When a man can win the Presidency via a supreme court judgment rather than the results of an election, and then ride a tide of patriotism to secure a second term in office ("Be a patriot, support the President!"), is it such a leap of faith to say that patriots of the US are being cynically manipulated?

A combination of wind, solar and geo-thermal energy might help reduce consumption of oil and gas supplies.

I'd like to see individual households become as self-sustaining as possible, and rely upon a 'national grid' only in times of dire need. The people who consume more energy might be able to purchase surplus supply from neighbors.

I cannot see a sustainable future which relies upon a centralised distribution of energy, be it gas, electricity or petrol.
