The lyrics (below) are a poem by Richard Quinn (thefloggingparson) for his beloved wife, Jenny. The music is composed and performed by me, Jimmy Wainwright. This is dedicated to the memory of Richard Quinn who passed away on 9/11/09. Thank you to Mr. Quinn's family for the pictures and permission to use his haunting lyrics.

Old Man's Love Song.

Leanin' on my elbow watchin' you
fall asleep;
saw the blankets rise and fall, felt
your rhythm deep.
Ev'ry love song I'd ever heard
whistlin' through my mind
But I couldn't sing a single word,
Cos I was trapped out of time.

Chorus:
But they don't write no love songs
for a man of sixty-three.
So just to show how my heart longs,
This one's just for you from me.

I remember when we met; how could
I not?
Tremblin' of my wild heart, at the prize
I'd got.
Remember you at 20, when your eye
caught mine.
Love you as much now, despite the march
of time.

[chorus]

Lyin' wakeful in the dark, I shelter you,
my love.
Always had to do so, when the storms broke
up above.
Sheltered you, protected you, from ev'ry
violent gust;
But soon I'll have to leave you, cos time says
I must.

Till death us do part, sounds sad and
weary now.
But even though I have to go, I make this
solemn vow:
when you miss me, just turn your face to
be free;
and whistlin' in the wind, hear my love song
at sixty-three.

[chorus]

We wrote our own love story, across
all of the years.
Happy and sad and angry and mad; wild laughter in
the tears.
How could I ever leave you: That's not
to be.
I'll be standin' right here with you and
forever sixty-three.

"a song of triumph in its own way." - Richard Quinn
