I wish someone would post "It's Good To Have You Near Again" from the same album. It's meltingly beautiful.

After listening to this song for the first time, I was on a hunt to find a hard copy recording. Not only did i find one but a good condition LP of the entire album for $5 bucks on ebay. Cant wait for it to arrive.

Miss Price had a natural feeling for this music. If she had cultivated the style, she could have been a damned decent cabaret singer. .. The quality of her tone is just luscious.

Bought this 21 years ago on a wonderful CD called "Right As The Rain". LOVE it!

@jwklbm326 That is correct. i am not arguing with you. ROGHARM andre changed the style of the song but ms. price kept it the style IT SHOULD BE and was not influenced by andre changing style. i know nothing about bel canto. never mentioned it. but you are correct andre did change stle ms. price to her credit did not change style. she knew what she wanted and performed it in my opinion emphasis my OPINION correctly. not caveing in to andre. i think we agree song in two directions. i

@jwklbm326 The first half of the song is delivered as straight to the original melody as you would want and is lovely in its way. But then Andre and the rhythm section segue into a blues-feel with a back beat swing that Leontyne misses entirely. She sings it exactly the same way as before. Leontyne's Duesenberg missed the bridge and went to Broadway while the rhythm section walked to Harlem.

@rogharm You make some assumptions about me which are impossible for you to determine accurately. You you are not remotely close to understanding my musical taste and range of knowledge of the arts. Bel Canto singing has its place. Just not with every type of song. This just doesn't work for me.

@jwklbm326 I want operatic quality and and Ms. Price is PRICELESSY G R E A T!!!!! LOVE HER ROGHARM. you are dumbed down by singers forced upon you who cannot sing well. i am age 66 and only listened to quality on NETWORK RADIO LIVE MUSIC SHOWS in the 1950's. people today accept hip-hop, that is what i mean dumbed down and rap. it is NOT your fault society accepts low quality performers and music. lucky to be my age and know differently. repeat it is not you fault.shools gave musicapprecia

Gloriana!
To listen to Ella Fitzgerald and then to listen to Leontyne Price singing the same song back to back I can only say that Ella would have been a fabulous opera singer and that Leontyne would have been a great jazz singer. Their voices are equally well produced from the same mezza voce or "middle voice" that gives the singers agility and longevity. Leontyne would have had to work more on the jazz style and Ella in the opera repertoire.
