After a ride with Maxime Boulianne in his fully restored ex-STCUM 1983 GM New Look #33-003, which used to serve these parts back in the day.

  • If Maxime wanted to, could he have swapped it with a 6V92TA ?

  • He probably could have put in a 6V71N, not sure if a 6V92TA would be appropriate in this case, but I'm sure anything can be mechanically installed.

  • Yeah, the engine inside now is a lot stronger than it had originally.

  • It doesn't sound like the fishbowls that I'm used to hear. Is that the sound of the 8v71 that I'm hearing ?

  • Yes, during one of it's previous careers after the STCUM, an 8v71 was installed. Maxime hasn't decided yet if he will leave it in or take it out and put a 6v71 in it's place. It rides really fast with no force, and better fuel mileage.

  • Original transmission would have been the Allison V730. And after watching other videos of thos bus, it sounds like it still has the V730. Nice video!

  • I assume he kept the same tranny?  The Allison VR731 I think?
