This is the cover of the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song. It appears in Hellboy movie.

Lyrics:

Take a little walk to the edge of town
Go across the tracks
Where the viaduct looms,
like a bird of doom
As it shifts and cracks
Where secrets lie in the border fires,
in the humming wires
Hey man, you know
you're never coming back
Past the square, past the bridge,
past the mills, past the stacks
On a gathering storm comes
a tall handsome man
In a dusty black coat with
a red right hand

He'll wrap you in his arms,
tell you that you've been a good boy
He'll rekindle all the dreams
it took you a lifetime to destroy
He'll reach deep into the hole,
heal your shrinking soul
But there won't be a single thing
That you can do.
He's a god, he's a man,
he's a ghost, he's a guru
They're whispering his name
through this disappearing land
But hidden in his coat
is a red right hand

They're whispering his name
through this disappearing land
But hidden in his coat
is a red right hand

You'll see him in your nightmares,
you'll see him in your dreams
He'll appear out of nowhere but
he ain't what he seems
You'll see him in your head,
on the TV screen
And hey buddy, I'm warning
you to turn it off
He's a ghost, he's a god,
he's a man, he's a guru
You're one microscopic cog
in his catastrophic plan
Designed and directed by
his red right hand

  • I think this version fits Hellboy more than the original. It's dark but not evil. The original has the whole verse that clearly is about selling your soul and that just wouldn't work with Red. I actually like that they changed it it almost feels, since the original was about Satan, they were saying yeah he's a demon, but that's not his way, he's a good guy who came from the bad place, eh my opinion.

  • wow... he did such a great job on this song. It still has the dark mood but he added a nice, sexy angle to it. Well done!

  • Look at them ugly suckers, Blue. One sheet of glass between us and them

  • I prefer the original -- it's far more menacing and atmospheric. But Pete Yorn always has a way of taking a song and making it his own. I gotta respect that.

  • This is a good song, but it could use a little more electric guitar.

  • i got robbed by a sweet little old lady on a cart !!!

  • I prefer this version.....a fuzz quicker tempo, and more drive from the percussion......just like the way this mix sells it

  • @SasamiTM this version was in hellboy

  • Best version, for sure...very sexy!

  • "Although old, and dangerous behind the wheel, old people still DO serve a purpose!"

  • Why diddnt they use the original Nick Cave version? its much darker and i would think more suitable? ('everyone's a liar baby, thats the truth')
