Hitting the golf ball first from a fairway bunker might be one of the most difficult shots to play. The reason this particular shot is so difficult for most people is because they have the tendency to release the wrist hinge too soon. In order to hit the ball first and then skim the sand, your hands must lead the club into the ball. When you pull your hands faster than releasing the wrist hinge, you will give yourself the best chance of picking the ball off of the sand. At first, you may even hit the ball thin, which would be the exact opposite of hitting behind the ball. However, I'd take the time to find a nice fairway bunker to get some practice.

If you need help from a fairway bunker, consult your PGA Teaching Professional or call me at Wildwood Green Golf Club. I'd be glad to help you with any type of bunker shot. Stay tuned for more quick tips on getting out of bunkers.
