Kentucky's largest group of endangered species -- the ones that act as a natural filtration for our water -- are in the spotlight. Mussels, also called freshwater clams, are being studied, raised, and released back into rivers and streams at the guidance of mussel biologist Monte McGregor. His work puts Kentucky on the cutting edge of mollusk conservation nationwide, all from a quiet lab in Franklin County.
