Our female lion, Cabara, seems to like sitting up high in the tree in her habitat at Big Cat Country. On this fall day in 2009, the male, Ingozi, hangs out below and shows her some affection when she climbs back down.
African lions live in a number of different habitats: grassy plains, open woodlands, semi-desert areas, even high mountains. They eat anything they can catch and kill, including antelope, zebra and buffalo. Lions usually hunt with members of their family group, often by herding a prey animal towards other lions hidden in the bush. It is the adult females who do most of the hunting. African lions are not endangered but are disappearing from some areas because of human activity and the decline of their prey species.
