SL500 AutoX Practice - AAA Speedway - 2009-09-26 - run 01

I took the daily driver out today for an autox practice: stock '98 Mercedes SL500 on 225/55R16 Yokohama YK420's (sucky sucky tires).

The purpose of this was to get a feel for how this car handles at the limit in a safe, controlled, and legal environment.

This was my first run of the day - I was all over the place & didn't know what to expect. A video of my fastest run is also uploaded (approximately 4 second improvement). The car lovesssss to sway & doesn't handle transitions that well as-is; putting down the power coming out of corners was also difficult with the current tires. Traction control was on for this run (turned off for subsequent runs).

The camera used is a Powershot TX1 (causing a little shake) & a Chasecam 3 suction cup mount (responsible for most of the shake you see). When I take the car out again, hopefully it will be on better tires.
