@ryanmh23 I use canson mi teintes ( high quality, made for charcoal). I think I may have figured it out. The technique I use blocks in all really dark areas & a lighter charcoal application over the entire piece. I then smear it away. Going back in making dark areas darker & lifting the light areas. I think there may be a static charge from the smearing. I noticed if I allow some time in between the smear & next application of charcoal it adheres. Thanks for the reply!

@artnuwa11 do you use regular copy paper because i noticed the same thing when using copy paper. but when use my more coarse drawing paper it never does that. maybe its the type of paper. hope i could help

@daisy125769 soft charcoal is darker and harder chacoal is lighter. 9B being the softest and 9H being the hardest. the harder the finer the line and the harder the more bold it is. for me it just helps when im trying to do a portrait i use the harder pencil for all the lighter areas and areas like the eyes where you need a finer tip to do the smaller areas. and when i want to do areas that are darker i use the softer lead. i hope i helped at all.lol.

1:12-1:22 these can be sharpened the way that they are, and will leave you a very nice tip when done so...... pencil tip breaks Lmao XD
