Donkey Kong Country 2 - Fiery Furnace Bonus Glitch!

A very bizarre glitch in the only bonus level found in Fiery Furnace. It only works in some versions of the game. There is no boundary below where you start, so you can essentially go below the brambles and then to the right of them. Not only that, but the brambles don't even affect you, so you can go outside the brambles the entire time (until the end, of course). Bizarre glitch indeed.

They patched this so barrels cannot go offscreen while you are in them so people can't glitch this... for the virtual console anyway. I just know back in the day I used this glitch to my advantage. =B

Yeah, there were actually multiple SNES versions... I think each region had two. Later SNES carts had a few bug fixes (like this bug), and apparently the VC version is a port of the newer version.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I just downloaded a ROM of this, and apparently there are two SNES versions of DKC2, v1.0 and v1.1. The one I downloaded was v1.1, and the glitch doesn't seem to work in v1.1. I couldn't get the barrel to go below the screen.

Rare was stupid when they tried to fix the DKC series for the GBA. They just ended up creating more and more tricks and glitches than before.

This is the SNES version, though you are right in that the GBA versions of the DKC games do have a ton of glitches (especially DKC2).

I just tried the same glitch in the GBA version, and they pretty much fixed it. You can go under the brambles at the start, but there's an invisible wall to the right of it that kicks you out of the bonus stage, so you can't get very far with this trick.

I don't remember exactly how, but once in Fiery Furnace my arrowpad barrel blasted close to the ground and it became permanent, I was able to use it all the way through the level.

Amazing. So, if you collect an DKC Coin in an Bonus Level, it will activate the Bonus Coin's animation. What would happen if you collect an Bonus Coin in an Normal Level?
