yeah i don't see Don being disrespectful..he's actually being very upfront about what he thinks. This is music that is reallllllllly hard to talk about, especially the process of how it comes about.
@giopagoda I don't experience Don as disrespectful at all in this exchange. I found his comments very thoughtful. I don't see any arrogance here at all. Don is someone who has such a broad and open perspective musically. He feels comfortable interacting with so many different types of people and has played so many types of music - from klezmer to latin to classical -- quite the opposite of someone who would be characterized as "arrogant."
Lewis Porter is really open to the audience, gives his answers and is always asking Don for his opinions. But Don Byron is such an a-hole in this! Why be so disrespectful to the musician he is playing with, and so uninterested in what the audience is asking... If there are 10 old people or 1000 "hip kids", he should show them the same respect.
What a drag!!! I feel sorry for Don having to be so academic about music, its ironic how something as simple as just music can be made to look so complex by the use of words!!!
