The Asian premiere of "Kalabsha on River Nile" (1991), for 21-string guzheng (Chinese zither), by the Egyptian-born American composer Halim El-Dabh (b. 1921).
The performance took place on October 20, 2005, in the Recital Hall of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, during the symposium "Africa Meets Asia," organized by Drs. Akin Euba (of the University of Pittsburgh) and Li Xin (李昕, of the Central Conservatory of Music).
The performer is Zhou Shan (周珊), who was a guzheng student at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
The piece is named for Kalabsha, an ancient temple in the Nubian region of southern Egypt, and calls to mind the sound of the Nubian lyre called "kissar."

Zhou Shan (周珊) is on another video from this same concert. She must have graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music by now, so she's either in graduate school or playing as a professional musican. Perhaps you could find videos of her on Baidu Video. I will ask my friends in Beijing if they know what she is up to now.
