  • Thanks for the demo... Quick comment, the short "scratch arm" holds the cartridge crooked in the groove over most of a side. This produces far more distortion and is harder on your records than the S-arm (or long straight arm) with the cartridge mounted with a ~20 degree offset angle. The only advantage of the short arm is that it is less likely to skip when scratching.

  • @bryede I have since purchased a Technics SL-1200 with a much better arm - I can hear the difference and my Stanton (with the straight arm) is only used for 78 RPM records and any scratchin' that needs to be done.

  • Is the cleaning solution safe on 78rpm's as well?? I was wondering being that MOST 78s are shallac, not vinyl.... If not, can I use a different cleaning solution that's made for 78's?? Thanks for the GREAT review... I subscribed to your podcast via iTunes... Great stuff,man... Keep up the EXCELLENT work and reviews!!

  • @joshtowens the fluid does not have alcohol in it so 78s are OK. That's one of the reasons it has a slot for the rollers to accommodate 10 inch records.

  • Great demo Bill! I like your casual style, and you covered every question I had about this system. Question: After I buy the system, how much will it cost me per-hour to have you clean all 5,000 of my LP's? :) H.M.

  • @HunterMann Ha ha! Its not a per-hour charge. $1.75 per record plus shipping, meaning it's better to do this yourself. Thanks for the compliments.

  • @Vanderstein950 It's about the quality of the sound. Obviously you don't mind the extra interference the fingerprints and goop make on a record when that is whole source of the sound...what's on the vinyl.

  • SCISSOR ME!

  • ohohoh fingerprints ohohooh hair. big whoop. are you a clean freak or something, bill? u puss.

  • 80 $ nice but over priced

  • add a crank to this . by hand sucks. harbor freight water pump and filter. now you will have something

  • Hugh diference?...... ok. whatever.....

  • After you clean them, try GruV Glide ,IT reduces the friction of the needle while it is on the record and brings out more sound, and it is a 1 time treatment..LAST Record Preservative is great also..I use both..Gruv lide an be used after a Last treatment.

  • funny voice overs! Good stuff! Thanks.

  • it's a very good review. thanks :)

  • @rdm5161 not sure what it was. On a lot more investigating I found only the first 4 I put through have real scratches. As the disc spins you hear a pop in the same place repeatedly. Another problem is it adds surface noise to any record. It seems to be really bad at first and over time settle to a low level, but still much louder than the record was prior. Because of this I thought they all had permanent damage, but not so, just dirty. Use a brush or sink instead, never a problem using those.
