Test details:

The Lincoln Town Car, Ford Crown Victoria, and Mercury Grand Marquis were re-engineered for the 2003 model year.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of a 2003 Town Car in two 40 mph frontal offset crash tests into deformable barriers. In the first test, a high acceleration occurred when the dummy's head rebounded against the B-pillar, indicating a possibility of head injury. This led Lincoln to modify the frontal airbag deployment characteristics on models produced after May 2003 (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door).

The Institute tested a second Town Car with the modified airbags, and all head injury measures were low. Ratings of the Town Car listed here are from the second test.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled in the second test. During rebound, the top of the head hit the roof rail and adjacent window frame between the A- and B-pillars. As in the first test, the driver's seat tipped toward the door.

Injury measures — In the second test, measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the left femur, knee, and tibia indicate that injuries to the leg and knee would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail/window frame hit was low.

  • my town car has 467,000 mathafucking miles!

  • I have an '03 Town Car with 147K on it, runs like a top, not a mark on it. Everything works. Big, heavy, V-8, body-on-frame, RWD, old (proven) school. Rides like my living room, none better for, especially, a long trip. Coffin quiet. Cheap to buy. Downside? Nothing. Oh, and 25.5 mpg on the highway

  • I love my '05 Signature Limited...

  • My '97 TC hit a Brand new Fiat 500 at 70 mph head on (the driver of the Fiat 500 was from the UK and drunk and was driving on the wrong side of the road):

There were only a few scratches on the bumper of the town car. The Fiat 500 collapsed so fast that it created a singularity and caused a wormhole to open, which took me back and time to before the accident, and this time I swerved from the Fiat. So the accident never occurred or did it?

  • I love my 2003 Signature Series

  • @freshjive855 Yes generic, though it will last 4x longer than your typical Honda Civic without having to sit in the garage once or twice for extended periods of time.

  • YES! Smash that ugly ass, generic looking ACME brand car! No style, no soul, smash.

  • @TheSovietUnionCCCP wowsers mine only has 352,XXX. Sad they're taking them away D: but I bet some other car manufacturer will seize this opportunity and make a Town Car, it'll just be a different car company like Cadillac or someone, but regardless, I plan to keep mine for another 1,000,000 miles or so.

  • I want a crown vic...

All i have is a civic..

  • Ford's made the biggest mistake when they decided to kill the Panther Platform. Police & Taxi companies chose the Crown Victoria/Lincoln Town Car/Mercury Grand Marquis for their rugged body-on-frame construction and rear-wheel-drive along with huge interiors and trunks. The newer cars that are proposed to take their place have none of these. RIP True American Automobiles!

  • better than supra

  • @stephenswickedcool agree with you 100%
