SB 1298 (Padilla), would direct the California Highway Patrol to develop standards and performance requirements for the safe testing and operation of autonomous vehicles on the state's roads and highways. Last year, the Governor of Nevada signed into law similar legislation. California will be joining Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, and Oklahoma this year that are considering legislation regarding autonomous vehicles.
