The State Employees Association of North Carolina organized a protest at NC Blue Cross Blue Shield to highlight the insurance company's opposition to President Obama's public option health plan. Adam Searing talks about the history of Blue Cross, fancy offices, insurance executive's salaries, and why a public option is so important.
I like this dude's style.
The reason insurance companies oppose a public option is that they couldn't compete with it. Same reason the President couldn't get a public option included in the PPACA (even though it was one of the most popular of his proposed reforms): the law wouldn't have passed without the support of the insurance industry.
It all comes down to corruption in politics. I wish I had a solution, but it's so entrenched. It would help if we had labour rights in NC, though.
