Pinnacle Racing Stable and trainer Bill Kaplan's 20-1 longshot Musical Romance pulled away on the inside in the stretch to take the $909,000 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs.
Switch and Her Smile came charging late on the far outside, but Musical Romance (by Concorde's Tune) won by 1 ¼ lengths, covering the seven furlongs in 1:23.47 under jockey Juan Leyva.
Switch edged Her Smile by a head for second. It was another 2 ½ lengths farther back to Pomeroys Pistol. Favored Turbulent Descent finished fifth after a troubled trip that included getting squeezed at the start.

Leading up to this race, I felt like Turbulent Descent was a lock to win the F&M Sprint this year. But when I saw the track had come up muddy today, I immediately had concerns. She didn't run well at all at Belmont on a sloppy track when It's Tricky beat her in the G1 Acorn. She had kind of rough trip in this race, IMO. She got bumped early on and it forced her out 4 or 5 wide the whole way. That, coupled with the track conditions, were very likely her undoing in this race. JMO.
