The Best $300 Tripod for DSLR Video

In this video I crack open a brand new tripod system and set it up. The head is a Manfrotto 501HDV, which is a great choice for shooting video. The tripod legs are Slik 700DX. Together this system is around $300, but if you're serious about shooting, this tripod and head kit should have your covered for many years. How much weight does it support total? I want to use this with a Canon 60D setup with Red Rock Micro Material, an external LCD, and possibly a Rode Mic. Firstly, can you fit the 60D into that head and can the tripod setup support the materials I mentioned?

@depelated Yes - the 60D will fit nicely on the 501HDV head. The Slik 700DX legs can support up to 15 lbs (6.8 kg), and the 501HDV head weighs 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg), so as long as your camera & other stuff isn't heavier than 11.5 lbs (5.2 kg), then you should be fine.

@nbomberz - I'm glad you got something out of my review! You don't need to convert the Slik tripod legs to work with the Manfrotto head. The top of the Slik has a 3/8" screw, and the bottom of the 501HDV has a 3/8" thread. You just screw them together and you're good to go.

Just got the slik 700dx legs, 501hdv, and indislidermini! can't wait to make more videos. thanks! the only thing i regret is i have been reading the the 701hdv has a smoother because it has fluid cartridges or something.... and the 501hdv has teflon plates... did i make the right choice!?
