Eleven people are missing and at least 50 have been airlifted to safety by RAF helicopters after torrential rain caused rivers to burst their banks in the North West.
Hardest hit was Cumbria where four bridges have collapsed and more than 200 people had to flee their homes and take refuge in emergency shelters.

In addition, roads have been blocked, schools closed and rail and bus services severely disrupted.

Police say one of the 11 missing people is an officer who disappeared after Northside Bridge in Workington collapsed.

The Environment Agency says hundreds of properties in Cumbria have been flooded with the towns of Cockermouth and Keswick the worst affected.
