  • @LampPlaceThing - You'll find Jesus instructing on how severely to beat slaves in Luke 12:46-48. He says to beat disobedient ones "with many stripes" but obedient slaves "shall be" beaten not quite as much.

Of course, Yahwey says to nail their ears to the door, and gives instructions on how to sell your daughter into slavery.

  • Christianity: PWNED.

  • @gspaulsson - Glad you're a nonbeliever. Now, if it's a parable, what a crappy one it is! Moreover, here's the all-knowing son of God with an opportunity to impart great moral lessons, and he says THAT? How about simply, "Thou shalt not buy or sell fellow men or women," and "there are no witches." What a different world we would have experienced for that last 2,000 years! But nope, Jesus never says anything against slavery, nor does he teach us that Exodus 22:18 is BS - like he SHOULD have.

  • @gspaulsson One way to render this in modern language is that we are stewards of this planet, and if we don't take care of it, we will suffer for it. So don't say manana, address the problems now. That's of course not how the Christian right would interpret it.

  • @gekritzl Um. I'm an atheist, but let's be fair. That passage is explicitly a parable, whose point is that you should act like a servant whose master [i.e. God] has left him in charge, but might come home any time. In that context: "if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;" - then your metaphorical master, God, will whip you.

  • thank god for sam harris o.O

  • so if you are so poor you can't afford to feed your dog... you can't sell your daughter? wth?

  • @k0smon And if you believe with such a deep trust, you must have some neurobiological issues. Like the people who let bombs explode on a market place, to go to paradise with 77 virgins. Your brains work all in a similar way. I bet you are 100% sure that such a fellow goes to hell and he is 100% sure, that you go to hell. I am 100% sure that you both, won´t go anywhere after your death. You will be just dead after a wasted life. We will find out eventually... or more likely...not....

  • @k0smon I understand. You have nothing but your personal belief. Like the belief in horoscopes, ghosts, aliens and communicating pineapples. They all tell the same stuff. And they are all sure, they are right. What I don´t get is the fact that you are so arrogant to think, that such powerfull beeing like "god" which exists according to all religous scientests apart all universal laws, care about a little speck like you, in the eternal range of time and space? Wait-you don´t think-you believe..

  • @daswenzel ::: We have His creation to study. "what does the lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God" It is so very simple it does not require a book. We already know how to live and relate to each other, Dale Carnegie had that figured out. Wayne Dyer can tell you about spirituality. Practice the presence of God thru meditation and prayer. I use a book called OAHSPE to tell me about God. The afterlife? "Life in the World Unseen" free dwnld.

  • @Nucourier Is this irony or do you really mean it? It the same thing, what happend when one insulted Hitler. If you insulted your father you got a clap on the cheek, if you insulted Hitler you were hanged. Now, this explains a lot...

  • @k0smon Okay, so what do we have from god then?
